About Me

Welcome to my website.

I have worked with children and families for over 13 years. Since qualifying as a child and adolescent psychotherapist, I have worked therapeutically in a variety of settings including statutory, voluntary and the private sector. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of how I work. I bring an empathic, attuned, respectful and sensitive approach to therapy sessions, using my experience and knowledge to support a process of exploration, change and growth, and a reduction in distress and difficult to manage feelings and connected behaviour. I integrate a range of theoretical and clinical perspectives to develop and support my work, which include attachment theory, neuroscience, object relations, and body oriented work. I also hold a Masters degree in Anthropology, and understand therapeutic change to happen on a systemic as well as personal and individual level. Alongside talking therapy, I sometimes use play and the arts to help clients fully express themselves in a safe and creative way.

One of my specialisms is my work with adopted children, and families whose lives have been affected by developmental trauma, attachment difficulties and parental mental health. I have also developed training resources on the subject of neuroscience and attachment theory.

I have a private practice in Brockley, South East London, where I see children, teenagers and young adults presenting with a range of emotional and behavioural difficulties. Some of these include chronic anxiety, depression, bereavement, self harm, chronic illness, gender identity issues, bullying and divorce.

I enjoy living in a diverse city, and working with people from all cultures and backgrounds. My special interests include issues such as displacement and belonging, separation and loss, and eco-psychology. I am also a mandala artist, which brings together my passion for working creatively with nature, people and the community

I am committed to continued professional and personal development. I frequently attend a wide range of training courses and seminars to develop my expertise and enhance my capacity to meet clients' diverse needs. I hold full professional liability insurance and an up to date DBS (Disclosures and Barring service) certificate.

A Bit About Therapy

When we are living to our full potential, life is a creative flow between us and the world we inhabit. We are in balance and able to meet life's challenges with compassion, curiosity and awareness. When we face particularly challenging times, our flow can become interrupted and blocked. This disturbs our innate inclination towards growth and fulfillment. These blocks can be from our past, or they can reside in the present. They may also take the shape of anxiety about the future. Therapy provides a space for individuals to listen and hear where their interruptions reside. The therapeutic relationship is a safe space to experiment, explore and be held by non judgement and empathy. If you would like to learn more about Gonce's approach, click here
